| 内容記述 | 新約聖書における義の概念にはギリシア・ローマ世界におけるような社会の倫理的秩序を構成する徳として義（正義）という性格（アリストテレス『ニコマコス倫理学』1129a-1130b）は弱く、旧約・ユダヤ教の伝統に従って、神が行使する義（詩7:10; 11:7; 37:6; 51:6）、或いは、神の前での人間の義（創15:6; イザ41:8; 知7:27 を参照）という宗教的・神学的性格が強い。しかし、義の神学的理解も詳しく見ると新約文書によって多様であり、旧約・ユダヤ教の義の理解の延長線上で、神の聖なる意思を実践することを強調するマタイ福音書やヤコブ書が存在する一方で（マタ3:15; 5:20; 6:1; ヤコ2:21, 24）、人間の罪を無償で赦し、人間を義とする賜物としての神の義を強調するパウロの義の理解が存在する（ロマ1:17; 3:21-31; 9:30-32; ガラ2:15-21 を参照）。様々な義の理解が新約文書の中に見られることは、初期キリスト教は一枚岩ではなく、神の子イエス・キリストへの信仰という共通項を持ちながらも、信仰/ 信実と行いの関係の理解については対照的な理解を示す潮流が併存したことを示している。 | |||||||||||||

| 内容記述 | The concept of righteousness in the New Testament is not characterized as a cardinal virtue in the ethical order of society as in the Greco-Roman world (Aristotle, Ethica Nicomatica 1129a-1130b). It is rather a theological concept used to describe God’s relation to the world or human beings’ relation to God as in the Old Testament (cf. Genesis 15:6; Psalms 7:10; 11:7; Isa 41:8 etc.). The righteousness of God is the basis of its theological understanding. Nevertheless, the NT writings show diverse theological understandings of righteousness. Paul emphasizes righteousness given to human beings as a gift of God who is willing to forgive their sins (Romans 1:17; 3:21-31; 9:30-32), while the aspect of fulfilling the holy will of God is stressed in Matthew and James as in early Judaism (Matthew 3:15; 5:20; 6:1; James 2:21, 24). There were different streams of early Christianity showing diverse understandings of the relationship between faith and work. | |||||||||||||
